The answer is 42.

The 42nd birthday of Singapore is today. How did I use to spend this day, I cannot seem to remember many significant occasions. But I do recall staying home with my family, watching the parade with great pride and patriotism, waving my flag (collected from school), pasting on the tattoo (also gotten from school), singing all the national day songs (learnt, yes, from school), being happy just eating a random dinner in front of the television, watching the routine march-past, performances, and anticipating all the old-yet-nice-to-sing songs. And just last year, I somehow manage to get into the parade, twice, preview and actual NDP, and spent national day, well, upfront and celebrating with my cousins and family at the stadium. As for the year before? I recall it being the special 40th national day, and it being so, well, special, there was some community involvement in the celebrations, NDP @ Tampines, to be exact, and I was there, happily involved in community drumming, appearing randomly on television, waving, being high, having fun with friends. Now, that was fun.

So what have I done on this 42nd birthday of Singapore? Nothing significant I would expect, and nothing good has come out of today really. Wasted most of the morning and afternoon away trying to do homework, playing funny songs on the piano, running around house trying to escape work, playing the strange game introduced by shaoxiong, and which now I am helplessly addicted  to  happily playing, attempting to get out of the house, but to no avail… And thus far, I have been non-productive, work-wise, despite that being the primary intention of staying home.

The worst thing, of course, was the sudden pumpkining of my laptop, since the keyboard completely died on me, half the keys were gone. Woe. And so, thank God, I have this PC at hand, to save me from not having a computer for the rest of the week (which, seriously, is no joke, considering all that work to be done on the computer).

This year, no flag, no singing patriotic songs, no tattoos, no NDP tickets, no out-of-house escapades…

How was national day?
